The archaeological site of Pyrgos Ragios is located 10 km North of the city of Igoumenitsa. He occupies the low hill top in the middle of the Kastrin-Kastrin plain, near the old estuary of the river Kalamas. The position presents timeless use from the Middle Palaeolithic period to the times of Ottoman domination.

The tower belongs to the architectural type of “Kulias” (“Kula”), which, like the tower, was particularly widespread in the wider Balkan area during the Ottoman period. It is a military building, which served as an observatory and for the accommodation of the guard of the area of the region. Findings from the inquiries to the archaeological site of Pyrgos Pyrgos are exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa.
