Synagogue – Basilica

Right in the heart of the city, on one of its main streets, is the Basilica Synagogue of Saranda, which came to light after archeological excavations, where you can clearly see the ruins of buildings that belong to the medieval period.
From these excavations a Basilica and two mosaics have emerged, respectively with the figures of fish, the explanation of which is related to the coast of Saranda.
There are also inscriptions in the mosaic, which are illegible, but very interesting for the curiosity of the visitors, because according to the decipherments that have been made, it testifies to the relations and beliefs of the Jewish community of Saranda.
